Forum on Sustainable Access to Effective Antibiotics

September 20, 2016 4:00 - 7:30pm

The yale club of new york city

A FORUM OF GLOBAL LEADERS PRECEDING THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HIGH-LEVEL MEETING ON ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens to undo decades of progress in combatting disease. On September 21, 2016, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will confront this issue — only the fourth time a health topic has been discussed at a high-level UNGA meeting. The session provides a powerful opportunity to organize the global response to AMR and ensure the future sustainability of our antibiotics.

The Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership, in collaboration with The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, The German Center for Infection Research, The Infectious Diseases Society of America, The Norwegian Institute of Public Health, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and The Wellcome Trust, will host a forum of global leaders on Sustainable Access to Effective Antibiotics preceding the UNGA meeting on September 20, 2016.

Global leaders in the field of AMR — including presidents, UN agency directors, and industry CEOs — will discuss the issue on the eve of the high-level meeting. Panels will address the pillars of AMR control: stewardship and conservation, innovation, and global accountability and governance.
